Financial Literacy Month in Manitoba

This proclamation is intended to raise awareness of the importance of financial literacy and supporting learners in building the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to make informed financial decisions throughout their lives.

To strengthen financial literacy learning in schools, Manitoba Education and Early Childhood Learning has developed two new Grade 9 Mathematics courses, integrating an enhanced focus on financial literacy, for pilot and voluntary implementation in the 2026/2027 school year.

A variety of valuable financial literacy resources are available to support teaching and learning, including:

  • Building Futures in Manitoba, a resource to support the integration of financial literacy concepts in grades 4 to 10 from the Canadian Foundation for Economic Education. (https://www.buildingfuturesinmanitoba.com)
  • Money and Youth, a guide to financial literacy for youth ages 14 and up from the Canadian Foundation for Economic Education. (https://moneyandyouth.com)
  • Indigenous Peoples' Money and Youth, a guide to financial literacy for Indigenous youth from the Canadian Foundation for Economic Education.

  • Make It Count!, a Grade 4 to 8 resource from the Manitoba Securities Commission. (https://mbsecurities.ca/get-informed/programs/make-it-count.html)

It is the hope of the Honourable Tracy Schmidt, Minister Education and Early Childhood Learning, that through the proclamation of Financial Literacy Month, educators, students, parents/caregivers, and community members will be encouraged to have meaningful conversations about financial well-being and make responsible choices that contribute to lifelong financial success.
