Manitoba School Library Day

October 26, 2026 is Manitoba School Library Day. The theme of the day is "School Libraries Shine!".

Held annually on the fourth Monday of October, Manitoba School Library Day recognizes the vital role school libraries play in student success. Through instruction and equitable access to diverse resources, they enhance learning, support curriculum implementation, and inspire a lifelong passion for reading and learning. School libraries help students develop essential skills, including literacy, critical and creative thinking, inquiry, and collaboration, that contribute to success in school and beyond. They also provide welcoming, inclusive spaces where students feel represented, connected, and empowered to explore their interests and reach their full potential.

In celebration of Manitoba School Library Day, the Honourable Tracy Schmidt, Minister of Education and Early Childhood Learning,  encourages everyone to participate in the "Drop Everything and Read" challenge sponsored by the Manitoba School Library Association. This association, which is dedicated to improving the quality of school libraries in Manitoba, is challenging all students and educators to read for twenty minutes at 11 a.m. on October 26, 2026.

By celebrating Manitoba School Library Day, educators and students have an opportunity to acknowledge the lasting impact school libraries have on student achievement, well-being, and engagement.
