Medieval Feast Information

April 16, 2018

Dear Parents,

The grade 8s are now working on the “Middle Ages” unit in the social studies curriculum.  This unit will culminate with the Medieval Feast on May 3rd. Here is a timeline of this social studies unit for the next few weeks:

In-School Costume Rental Availability Tuesday, April 24th from 12:00-3:00 pm
Karen Alton (204-242-2941) and Yvonne Kroeker (204-823-0489 or kroeder@mymts.net) will be in school with their costumes at noon on this day.  Costumes can be rented for between $15 and $25. You may also make arrangements for a costume rental at any time between now and the 24th. Parents welcome to attend.

Last date for Purchase of Tickets to the Feast Thursday April 26th
Tickets for the feast are on sale NOW from your child`s homeroom teacher. The cost of a ticket is $8.00.  The student can invite two (adult) guests to the feast (parents, grandparents, aunt & uncle, etc.).  The grade 8 teachers ask that school-age or pre-school children not attend the feast as guests. The deadline of April 26th is a firm deadline.  No tickets will be sold by any teacher or the office after April 26th.

Proof of Costume Thursday, April 26th
Students must show evidence to their homeroom teacher they have a costume for the medieval feast by this date, so as to avoid any last-minute “surprises”. Evidence can be the costume itself, a picture of the costume, or a note or email from a parent stating the student does indeed have the costume.

Gym Decoration Wednesday, May 2nd
Several students from each homeroom will help decorate the gym this evening from 7:00 to 8:30 pm.  They will set up tables and chairs, and put up artwork and banners in the gym.

Morning of the Feast Thursday, May 3rd
The students will be in one of three classrooms watching a movie with a medieval theme.  Their choices are Shrek, A Knight’s Tale, and Princess Bride.  The students are expected to pick a movie and remain in that room for the entire morning. If you have any concerns regarding the movies, please contact the school.

At 11:35, students will start getting dressed in their costumes.

Medieval Feast Thursday, May 3rd
Parents are expected to start showing up to the school at about 11:40 am.  They will be seated by the ushers of the feast.  Don’t forget to bring your tickets! The feast itself starts at 12:00 pm sharp with the procession of the head table, introductory greetings and speeches. Lunch will then be served. This year lunch consists of beef stew, veggies and dip, cookies and fruit punch.  It is not a big meal. Entertainment (singing, playing of instruments, people going into the stocks) will follow. The feast will be headlined by the dancers.  At 1:00 pm the lord will dismiss the guests and jousting and clean-up will follow.

The grade 8 team would like to thank you in advance for your continued support of this tradition. If you have any questions about the feast or the unit on the Middle Ages, please contact your child’s Social Studies teacher.

Sincerely,
