Western School Division laid out their major budget plan at the annual Budget Exhibition Evening on February 28th in the MCI gymnasium. As the province tightens spending, all school divisions across the province are affected, including WSD. However, due to prudent planning over the years and growing enrollment in all of our schools, the impact of these changes is far less than it could have been. ÉMMS will gain two additional homeroom classes in the fall and will boast a student population in the neighborhood of 575 kids which would be the largest population in our school history! The division announced that it has applied to get a stack of three classrooms built on the north side of the high school which would allow a couple of classrooms at the south end to be allocated to ÉMMS, alleviating a bit of the space issue for now. However, with back-to-back years of record breaking registration in Kindergarten and the knowledge that our classes will grow as the years pass, our need for a new school in Morden is clear. WSD continues to deliver this message to the province in hopes of avoiding the inevitable problems on the horizon. Please continue to send letters to your MLA explaining why a new school is important to you and your child.
