Volunteer

We are incredibly grateful to all the volunteers who contribute their time and effort to support our school, both within and around the community!

If you're interested in becoming a volunteer, there are three required checks that must be completed before you can begin:

  1. Criminal Record Check
  2. Child Abuse Registry Check
  3. Respect in Schools Training

Below are the details for completing the volunteer procedures:

To volunteer at any of our schools, every individual must have a Criminal Record Check and a Child Abuse Registry Check completed. These checks are available at no charge if you pick up the necessary paperwork from the Western School Division office.

This year, all staff and volunteers must also complete the Respect in Schools Training (approximately 1.5 hours). This is a mandatory requirement and must be completed before volunteering.

Here is the link to the training: Respect in Schools Training

Additionally, if you are involved in clubs, groups, or sports activities, you must complete the Respect in Sport for Activity Leaders Training before beginning any involvement with these activities. This includes activities such as running clubs, coaching sports, etc  Any adult involved in these activities must finish this training beforehand.

Once all of the above are completed, you will be cleared to volunteer at the school and participate in where volunteers are needed. To maintain the validity of these checks, each year in September, we ask that you sign a declaration confirming that no changes have occurred since the initial checks. These forms are available at the school office. After signing the declaration, you may continue volunteering. The checks will remain valid as your child(ren) transition to different schools, provided the declaration is signed each year.

Steps to complete the checks:

  1. Visit the Western School Division (WSD) office at 4-75 Thornhill Street (Mon. - Fri., 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.)

    WSD will provide:

    • A letter for the Morden Police or RCMP to waive the Criminal Record Check fee.
    • An application form for the Child Abuse Registry Check.
  2. Fill out the Child Abuse Registry Check at the WSD office:

    • Bring 2 forms of government-issued ID.
    • WSD will submit this form on your behalf at no cost.
  3. For City residents - Go to the Morden Police Station:

    • Bring the letter from WSD for the Criminal Record Check (no fee).
    • Provide 2 forms of government-issued ID.
    • Complete the form at the police station, stating you are volunteering for WSD.
    • Morden Police will contact you when your Criminal Record Check is ready for pick-up.
    • Pick up your Criminal Record Check (usually within 1 week) and return it to WSD.

You may begin volunteering once WSD has received your Criminal Record Check. There is no need to wait for approval of the Child Abuse Registry Check. Any concerns regarding the registry will be addressed as needed.

  4. For RM of Stanley residents - Go to the RCMP office

    • This process must be completed in person at the RCMP office (Wednesdays, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.).
    • Bring 2 pieces of ID and the WSD letter indicating you are volunteering.
    • The RCMP will send you the necessary forms by email.
    • Complete and return the forms via email to DMorden@rcmp-grc.gc.ca (include the WSD letter).
    • Once processed, the RCMP will notify you by email when your Criminal Record Check is ready to be picked up (Thursdays 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 - 4:30 p.m.).
    • Pick up your Criminal Record Check at the RCMP office (797 Thornhill St., across from Tim Hortons).
    • Return the Criminal Record Check to WSD promptly.

You may begin volunteering once WSD has your Criminal Record Check, regardless of the status of the Child Abuse Registry Check. Any issues with the registry will be handled at that time.

  5. Let your school know when you're ready to volunteer.

Thank you for your dedication to supporting our schools!
