Student Conferences

March 12, 2018

At Minnewasta School we look forward to this important opportunity to celebrate your child's growth and learning!  What can parents expect at a "Student Involved Conference"? This is an opportunity to spend 15 minutes with your child and their teacher celebrating the learning and growth that has taken place.  The conference may include, but is not limited to, a conversation about your child's progress at school, a recent report card, a portfolio of work or other evidence of learning, other questions or concerns that may arise, goals and next steps and a chance for you to ask questions and share comments.

In Western School Division we have the expectation that teachers will communicate with parents in a timely manner about any major learning or behaviour concerns.  As a parent, you should never have to worry that you will find out about any such concerns for the first time in a report card or at a conference with your child present. It is important to us that these conferences are a positive part of each student's learning experience.

If you have any questions or concerns about Student Involved Conferences or you have an experience you would like to share, you are always welcome to contact your child's teacher or myself.  Parents are also reminded that planning for the coming school year typically starts soon after the second reporting/conferencing period.  If you have concerns, requests or compelling information that you feel we should know when planning next year's classes, you should contact the Principal of the school your child will be attending.

We look forward to seeing you and I hope that your conference time is positive and informative!

Sincerely,

Andrew Volk, Principal
