Employment Dates:     February 20, 2018 – June 29, 2018 (with the possibility of extension into 2018/19 school year)

Maple Leaf School is looking for an outstanding candidate to assume an Early Years Teacher position, performing Kindergarten to Grade 4 Music teaching duties.

The successful candidate must be: a qualified teacher possessing a valid Manitoba teaching certificate, or the ability to obtain such; and demonstrating excellent verbal and written and communication skills. The successful candidate must demonstrate: a child-centered approach; an understanding of early year’s philosophy; knowledge of current curricula; a commitment to the development of literacy. The successful candidate will demonstrated the use of a variety of current teaching strategies and classroom structures thus demonstrate their understanding and ability to implement differentiated instruction. As the primary music teacher, the successful candidate must demonstrate a willingness and ability to direct choirs and other extracurricular musical endeavors such as festival, as well as demonstrate expertise and ability to play musical instruments, such as recorder, piano and Orff instruments. Possession of an Orff Level 1 or 2 certificate is an asset.

Highly desirable attributes include: knowledge of social justice issues and incorporating this knowledge into the teaching; the understanding and application of intervention at the classroom level; a commitment to teacher leadership and collaboration; a commitment to professional growth; as well as a working knowledge of Literacy with Information Communication Technology. The ability to converse in French and/or teach basic French is highly desired.

A condition of employment with Western School Division is a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector Search, Child Abuse Registry Check and an agreement by the applicant to disclose criminal record and/or Abuse Registry record information to the Division. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. Persons must present this information prior to their first day of work.
