Youth4Diversity is planning the following activities
for the 2011-2012 academic school year:
Throughout the month of November:
There would be bulletin boards created by Youth 4 Diversity. The bulletin boards will outline different ways in that people are bullied. The boards will include cyber bullying, texting, physical and emotional bullying and verbal bullying (5 boards in all). On the bulletin boards we will have statistics from the new bullying study that was conducted by a professor at the University of Winnipeg.
November 7-10th (Looking at bullying based on race)
Over the course of will introduce information about the prevalence of bullying pertaining to people’s race. We will provide information to students through their various teachers (optional for teachers) about the teachings of the aboriginal medicine wheel. The medicine wheel looks at providing tolerance for all races. We will also encourage students to wear red, black or yellow during the week in order to show their support. Finally, we will post a large medicine wheel in the front hallway.
November 14-18th Fighting Against Domestic Abuse
This week willfocus on making people aware of what domestic abuse entails and making students realize that it can happen to them. We are particularly concerned about both male and female students as they enter the dating world. We want to stress that domestic abuse can happen to men as well. We will be posting posters with statistics and information. In addition we will provide an information session at lunch (optional for staff and students) in which we will show survivor videos. We also have a speaker who is willing to come in.
November 21-25th LGBT awareness week
This week is designed to bring attention to the discrimination that occurs against people who are LGBT. Our goal is to promote tolerance (not to promote being a LGBT person). Included in the week will be posters with statistics and information. We will also have a speaker come in from the Rainbow Resource Centre present during a lunch period which will be optional for staff and students to attend (The speaker has already agreed to come). We will also be showing the Canadian “It gets better” video which is a video that promotes hope for people being teased because of their sexual orientation. We will be showing an anti-homophobia video created by Gimili High School. These videos will be shown at lunch and would be optional for staff and students to attend.

March 21st Anti-Racism Day
The International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination is observed annually on 21 March. On that day, in 1960, police opened fire and killed 69 people at a peaceful demonstration in Sharpeville, South Africa, against the apartheid "pass laws". Proclaiming the Day in 1966, the General Assembly called on the international community to redouble its efforts to eliminate all forms of racial discrimination.
